Marco Inc. buys Davis Typewriter copier division

WORTHINGTON -- Marco Inc., Davis Typewriter Co. Inc. and Ed Davis Business Machines have announced the sale of their copier division to Marco.

Davis Typewriter Co. Inc. has locations in Worthington and Marshall; Ed Davis Business Machines is located in Willmar. The two companies will continue to operate and provide their other office supply, furniture, and related office products at their current locations.

The employees that support their copier business -- including about 11 at Davis Typewriter's Oxford Street location -- are being given the option to join Marco staff and work at Marco's new Worthington location. It is not yet clear what will happen if those employees decline.

"Our customers will receive the same excellent and reliable service and support from Marco Inc.," said Todd Davis, president of Ed Davis Business Machines Inc., in a news release.

In September, Marco will open a new location at 1709 N. Humiston Ave., leasing part of the building from Nickel & Associates Insurance, its current occupant.

The transfer of its copier product inventory will open some space in the current Davis Typewriter location.

"We will be doing a bigger furniture showroom and we still have delivery staff for all of our next-day orders," said Michele Carlson, human relations staff at the Oxford Street facility.

"This document solutions acquisition continues our expansion in southern Minnesota and creates a local presence to bring our voice, data, and video expertise to this market," Marco CEO Jeff Gau said in a news release. "We welcome Davis' copier customers and staff to our 100-percent-employee-owned company."

Marco has been a fully authorized Sharp service and sales dealer since 1975. The company has 340 employees at its 13 locations throughout the Upper Midwest.

Davis Typewriter in Worthington has been in business since 1946 and has 28 employees.
