Runnings to build new Worthington location

WORTHINGTON — Runnings will build a new 74,000-square-foot store on the former Northland Mall property, the company has announced.

The new store is expected to open early next year. The company purchased 10.6 acres of land, located off of Oxford Street, from Aaron Marthaler’s Yellow Company LLC.

The new building will be more than twice the size of the current 28,000 square-foot location on Humiston Avenue. With the added size, the company will expand its selection of firearms, sporting goods, clothing, farm and pet supplies, tools, toys, housewares, and lawn and garden items. With more items to sell, the store plans to hire an additional 20 employees.

“Runnings has always prided itself on connecting with and giving back to the communities in which we operate,” said Dan Herrmann, Runnings COO, in a press release. “We’re excited about opening a larger store to meet the needs of our customers and bring more jobs to the area.”

The company plans to sell the existing building, open for business since 2000, once construction is complete.
