WORTHINGTON — The Southwest Minnesota Chief Elected Officials Board recently appointed Eric Austin to the Southwest Minnesota Workforce Development Board. Austin serves as a Labor Representative on the board and currently serves as a labor representative for AFSCME Council 65, AFL-CIO.
Austin serves bargaining units ranging from private sector nursing homes in Worthington to various public sector county and municipal bargaining units throughout the area. He attended Bemidji State University and earned a bachelor of science degree. in social studies education and history. After college, he taught middle and high school government, geography, and history in central Minnesota for 14 years before choosing to join the labor movement full-time.
The SW MN Workforce Development Council serves 14 counties in southwest Minnesota and has oversight responsibility for the WorkForce Centers in Montevideo, Marshall and Worthington. The council establishes workforce development policies that improve the social and economic conditions of the communities in the region. The council’s role is to build a strong and vital partnership between business, education, economic development and the workforce development community.
