Free identity theft learning session is Sept. 18

SIBLEY, Iowa — Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach will offer a free identity theft learning session from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Sibley Public Library.

The program will provide up-to-date strategies to protect financial and personal information.

“The workshop will be interactive and research-based,” said Jan Monahan, human sciences specialist in family finance with ISU Extension and Outreach. “We look at tools to protect personal information, steps to take if your information is hacked and resources for prevention of identity theft.”

According to Monahan, there are necessary actions that a person can take to protect themselves and their family, and reduce the chances of being a victim of identity theft or other scams.

Monahan said that anyone interested is also invited to come early (at 6 p.m.)  to check and see if they have been breached by the Equifax incident.

Although the program is free, pre-registration is requested. To pre-register, visit http://bit.ly/it10771 or call (712) 754-2888.

For more information, contact Monahan at (712) 336-3488 or jmonahan@iastate.edu.
