18U Softball: Worthington storms past Windom
WINDOM — The Worthington Storm 18U softball team lit things up with the bats Tuesday night when it took a doubleheader sweep over Windom.
The Storm opened the night with a consistent, 10-4 victory during which they scored in each of the five innings played. They followed that up with a 10-run second inning in the nightcap to take a 15-0 win for the sweep.
In the opener, six different Worthington batters banged out a hit. The Storm opened the game with a three-run first before adding single runs in the second and third to go up 5-0. Windom answered with a pair of runs in the home half of the third, but Worthington came right back with another 3-spot.
Rebecca Kazemba took the win for the Storm, working all five innings and allowing just two hits while striking out four and walking two. McKenna Schreier, Taylor Schreier, Stephanie Kazemba, Bailey Tisch, Rebecca Kazemba and Ida Rogers-Ferguson all had a hit each.
In game two, the Storm needed only three innings to finish off a 15-0, run-rule win behind a no-hitter from Rogers-Ferguson.
The Southwestern United junior-to-be took care of seven of the nine batters she faced herself via strikeout.
Meanwhile, Worthington’s offense put on a clinic. After scoring three runs in the first, the Storm sent 10 runners home in the second to put the game away.
Breanna Mulaney and Becca Linder led Worthington at the plate as each went 2-for-2. Eight players added to the onslaught with one hit apiece.
The Storm (2-0) will play in a tournament at New Ulm this weekend and host New Ulm in a 6 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday.
