5K Walk for Mary Kay Foundation
WORTHINGTON -- Although the Mary Kay Foundation is still fairly new, the foundation has been making strides in achieving its two-fold mission.
Established in 1996, Mary Kay Foundation, according to its website, has granted $25 million to "organizations fighting cancer and violence against women."
In support of the foundation, Teresa Widboom, local Mary Kay Independent Sales Director, is excited for the third annual MK5K Run & Fun Walk Aug. 13.
"I just felt that this would be a really good way to show the community that we're not just about lipstick," said Widboom, who has been planning this event with the help of her husband Matt Widboom, Katie Soderholm and a of team consultants.
"We really want to do something for the greater good," she said.
Scheduled in conjunction with the Nobles County Fair, the run is set for 9 a.m. at the county fairgrounds. Registration will begin as early as 8:15 a.m.
Entry fee prior to or on Aug. 6 is $10, and $15 if paid on the day of the event.
Participants will receive a t-shirt included in the fee.
A 5K run/walk is typically a 3.1-mile route.
"It will be a great, scenic route," Widboom said. "It's a great training run for the Turkey Day 10K."
Her advice to participants is rest well the night before and stay hydrated before the race.
The event is primarily sponsored by Veterinary Medical Center, Sanford Cancer Center and KUSQ US 104.
Registration forms can be downloaded from http://www.us104.net/features/blogs/mwidboom/20110728-3rd-annual-mary-ka....
Participants can return completed forms to WOW Studio's drop box at 916 Diagonal Road or at the KUSQ US 104 station.
All proceeds will benefit the Mary Kay Foundation.
