The Achievement Center awarded grant
ROSEMOUNT -- The Achievement Center of Worthington will receive $2,000 from Minnesota Energy Resources "It's Worth the Energy" program after garnering the second highest number of votes in a Facebook campaign.
Organizations were encouraged to submit proposals for projects that improve the community in one of three areas: Environment, Community or Human Services. Three finalists were selected and were voted on by visitors to the Minnesota Energy Resources' Facebook page. This is the second year of the program.
TAC will use the funds to set up and operate a retail store at its facility that will provide employment and training opportunities to those with physical and mental disabilities. The store, operated by clients, will sell snacks, T-shirts and other promotional items in hopes of teaching and receiving real retail experience, both from a business planning perspective and a job opportunity perspective.
The Headwaters Science Center of Bemidji will receive $3,000 for science outreach programs, while 360 Communities of Burnsville will receive $1,000 to stock its food shelves and support family resource centers.
