Adrian girls take high-scoring affair against Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH -- In a high-scoring, turnover-filled contest between neighboring schools, the Adrian Dragons defeated the host Ellsworth Panthers, 70-67.

Adrian (12-8) claimed a three-point halftime lead, but Ellsworth (10-10) stayed close the entire second half, knotting the score at 55-all -- before the Dragons worked to an eight-point lead and held off the final Panther surge.

Sam Lynn (21 points, five assists, six steals) and Brittany Bullerman (20 points, nine rebounds, three steals) had big games for the Dragons, while Erica Thier (11 points), Kayla Bullerman (six rebounds, four steals) and Kelsey Tjepkes (six rebounds, four steals, three assists) also contributed solid performances.

Four players -- Amanda Connors (17), Brooke Kramer (13), Rosie Lewis (12) and Rachel Kvaale (10) -- scored in double figures for Ellsworth.

Amy Tiesler was held to single digit scoring by the Dragon diamond-and-one defense, but shared team-high rebound honors with Lewis, each getting 13. Lewis also had four steals, while Kramer passed for five assists.

SSC 48, H-BC 41

HILLS -- James Granstra scored 22 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lift Southwest Star Concept.

Trevor Leopold also had 16 points for the Quasars, who won despite being outrebounded by Hills-Beaver Creek, 30-21.

Aaron Esselink led H-BC (1-10, 1-20) with 12 points.

ROUND LAKE -- Southwest Christian went on an 8-0 run to open the second half, blowing open a close game at Sioux Valley-Round Lake-Brewster.

Brent Schepen led with 19 points, followed by Andrw Schnyders (13 points, 13 rebounds) and Josh Van Hofwegen (10 points, 12 rebounds) for SWC (8-4, 10-8).

Michael Schmitz topped the SV-RL-B (5-6, 6-11) scoring charts with 14 points, followed by 10 each from Lon Eichenberger and Jared Bourquin.

ADRIAN -- Derek Johnson led Murray County Central with 20 points to defeat Adrian.

Paul Counter followed with 18 points for the Rebels (9-3, 10-7. Chris LeTendre had 16 and Thomas Spartz picked up 12.

Ryan Lonneman led Adrian (6-11) with 18 points, Lee Stover added 17 and Brad Brake had a double-double (15 points, 12 rebounds).

Fulda 71, W-WG 66

WESTBROOK -- In a game that had several lead changes, the Fulda Raiders prevailed over the Chargers of Westbrook-Walnut Grove.

Sam Woitalewicz tallied a game-high 23 points for the Raiders (8-4, 11-8), while Tim Haberman contributed 17 points and John Isder netted 14.

Jake Severson, Jonathan Kells and Zach Merrick scored 17, 15 and 13 points, respectively for the Chargers (2-9, 3-15). Merrick also dished off six assists for W-WG, which plays at Mountain Lake Tuesday.
