Amateur Baseball: Buttermakers edge Cubs 2-1
WORTHINGTON -- The Hadley Buttermakers outlasted the Worthington Cubs in a 2-1 victory during an amateur baseball game Wednesday night.
With the game scoreless through six innings, the Buttermakers put together a two-run top of the seventh to take a 2-0 lead. But the Cubs answered back with a run of their own to cut the lead to one.
Sam Erickson pitched eight and one-third innings for Hadley, registering eight strikeouts and four walks to go along with four hits. Justin Riensma picked up the save after closing out the final two-thirds of an inning.
Nate Jensen went seven innings for Worthington, striking out eight and allowing just one earned run. Adam Munkel came in to relieve Jensen in the eighth and pitch two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Max Zwart (1-for-4) had an RBI double to lead the Buttermakers at the plate, while Trent Carlson had the only other Hadley hit.
Tommy Hayenga, Eric Koob and Josh Wasmund all went 1-for-3 for the Cubs in the game with Koob picking up an RBI. Joey Kinley was also 1-for-4 at the plate.
The Cubs (1-4) travel to Wilmont Friday. The Buttermakers travel to Sioux Falls Friday.

Heron Lake 9,
MINNEOTA -- Lon Eichenberger went 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run, a triple and four RBIs to lead the Heron Lake Lakers to a victory over the Minneota Mudhens Wednesday.
Eichenberger got the win on the mound for the Lakers after pitching six innings and allowing two runs on six hits.
Luke Henkels was also 3-for-5 for Heron Lake with two RBIs and a stolen base. Lucas Knutson along with Ike and Garet Rogers each had two hits in the game.
The Lakers (4-1, 3-1) host Adrian and Fox Lake in a doubleheader Sunday.
