Amateur Baseball: Cardinals hammer Irish
MILROY -- Joe Ahrens pitched a five-inning complete game shutout to lead the Wilmont Cardinals to a 13-0 win over the Milroy Irish Sunday.
"Joe pitched a hell of a game for us today," Wilmont coach Todd Rogers said. "They are a good hitting team and being able to hold them to four hits is really good."
The Cardinals jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning, but were held off the board by Irish starting pitcher Clay Ellis for the only time in the game in the second.
"We hit well today," Rogers said. "We also made the defensive plays behind Joe which helped us get the win."
Wilmont pushed across another three runs in the third then jumped out to a 9-0 lead after picking up two more runs in the fourth.
The Cardinals wrapped up the game with four runs in the fifth to make it 13-0.
"It is always good to go up there and beat a good Milroy team," Rogers said. "
Steven Kremer (3-for-3) led the Cardinals at the plate with a three-run home run and three RBIs. Ahrens had two hits (2-for-3), including a home run and five RBIs. Lucas Henning also had three hits, all of them singles.
