Amateur Baseball: Cubs fall to Horned Frogs
LAKEFIELD -- Dustin Pronk allowed one earned run and struck out seven batters to lead the Lakefield Horned Frogs to a 5-2 win over the Worthington Cubs Wednesday.
"Pronk was able to keep us off balance at the plate," Cubs manager Josh Wasmund said. "We only got three hits off of him and weren't able to push across many runs."
Lakefield took an early 2-1 lead after the first inning, but Worthington cut the lead to one after scoring a run in the top of the second. However, the Horned Frogs tacked on two runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth to pull away from the Cubs.
"We had a few unlucky bounces in the infield today," Wasmund said. "But it didn't help that [Lakefield] was able to get hits when they needed them."
Nate Jensen took the loss for Worthington after going seven innings with five strike outs and allowing just three earned runs on six hits.
"Nate did a good job of limiting the damage with runners in scoring position tonight," Wasmund said.
Joe Joswiak, Joey Kinley and Wasmund all picked up hits for the Cubs with Kinley adding an RBI to his stats.
Trevon Bargfrede went 2-for-3 to lead the Horned Frogs at the plate while driving in a run on a double.
Worthington (1-7, 1-4) hosts Wilmont at 6 p.m. Friday at the Minnesota West fields.
