Amateur baseball: Fairmont, Adrian win
WINDOM -- It was a night of hits for the Fairmont amateur baseball team.
Fairmont outslugged the host Windom Pirates Wednesday 14-4, collecting 21 hits. Jon Ellis led the way with four hits in seven at bats, including a double. Teammates Levi Becker, Adam Schmidt and Andy Reiter each added three safeties.
Joel Riordan went 2-for-3 for Windom with an RBI.
Scott Chirpich went the distance on the mound for Fairmont, allowing eight hits while walking one and striking out four. He won despite his teammates' six errors in the field.
Brad Schlomann pitched the first five innings for Windom and took the loss.

Adrian 5, Minneota 4
ADRIAN -- Glen Kruger's walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Adrian a 5-4 come-from-behind victory over visiting Minneota.
Minneota led 4-1 going into Adrian's half of the ninth, but a pair of hit batters, a walk, and a couple of hits later the lead was erased. Kruger's hit plated two runs to send everybody home.
Nick Meyer was the winning pitcher for the A's, hurling the final two innings. Tony Shoikoski took the loss for Minneota.
Justin Wolf went 3-for-3 at the plate for Adrian and teammate Zach Dingmann added two hits.
Adrian is now 5-6 on the season.
