FAIRMONT — A six-run first inning put the Worthington Cubs in a hole, and a five-run fourth did further damage Wednesday night as Fairmont produced a 13-2 seven-inning amateur baseball victory.

Taylor Nawrocki shut out the Cubs through the first five innings, walking no one and striking out eight.

“The pitcher we faced is probably the hardest thrower we’ve seen this year,” said Worthington player-coach Josh Wasmund.

Worthington’s only two runs were scored in the top of the seventh, and they weren’t enough to keep the game from ending on the 10-run rule.

Four pitchers saw action for Worthington, which fell to 6-11 on the season. Erik Jass started. Tristan Sorenson, Ryan Swanson and Nate Jensen also pitched.

Eric Koob had two hits for the Cubs. Wasmund also had two hits, including a double and two RBIs.

Levi Becker had three triples for Fairmont.

After the first two batters of the first inning walked for Fairmont, a triple and two doubles followed to give the home team all the runs they would need.
