Amateur baseball: Martins end Hadley's season

FAIRMONT — Sawyer Doocy threw a complete game shutout Monday in the decisive third game of Fairmont and Hadley’s best-of-3 Region 13C Tournament first round series.

Doocy’s effort helped the Martins capture the series 2-1 with a 9-0 victory in Game 3. The loss ended the Buttermakers’ season with a 20-12 overall record.

Fairmont put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the first before a four-run third gave it a comfortable 6-0 cushion.

That was more than enough for Doocy, who scattered six hits and walked only one while fanning 11 in the nine-inning performance.

Colby Pack went four and one-third innings in the start for Hadley. He allowed eight earned runs on on nine hits and struck out one. Bryce Christopher gave up hits in the final three and two-thirds.

Max Zwart led the Buttermakers offense with a 2-for-4 showing. Nick Bruning was 1-for-3 with a double with Joe Larson, Taylor Rignell and Nate Wieneke adding a hit each.

Adam Schmidt led Fairmont — which will play Jackson at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Jackson — by going 3-for-5 with four RBIs.
