AMATEUR BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Wilmont earns walk-off win against Pipestone

WILMONT -- Wilmont's Brandon Schroeder had been pinch hit for all throughout Sunday's amateur baseball game against Pipestone, but when he finally got to the plate in the eighth inning he made sure his at bat counted for something.

Schroeder recorded a three-run home run in the at bat, helping the Cardinals accrue the four runs they needed in the inning to walk off with a ten-run rule inducing 13-3 victory.

Evan Diekmann (four innings pitched, seven hits, two earned runs, three strikeouts) took the win on the mound for Wilmont.

Nick Ahrens (four innings pitched, five hits, earned run, two walks, two strikeouts) relieved Diekmann and finished out the game.

Pipestone had a number of doubles on offense, with Colin Taibert (3-for-4, double), Doug Mead (3-for-4, RBI-double) and Dan Massit (4-for-4, two doubles) leading the way.

Steven Kremer was 4-for-5 with two RBI and three doubles for the Cardinals on offense, Jesse Teerink was 4-for-5 with an RBI, Justin Saufley was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI and Joe Ahrens was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.

Wilmont (9-2) will host Luverne on Wednesday.

Milroy 8, Hadley 7

HADLEY -- Hadley rallied with four runs in the final three innings after falling behind 8-3 on Saturday, but Milroy hung to record the victory.

Tyler Petersen earned the win for the Irish, with Cody Mather closing out the game to record a save.

Zach Bruns took the loss for the Buttermakers.

Luke Dolan (2-for-4, two doubles, two RBI) and Josh Ramos (2-for-3, two-run home run) led Milroy on offense.

Hadley's offense was paced by Alex Petersen (3-for-5, two RBI, double), Paul Counter (2-for-5) and Bruns (1-for-2, three runs scored, solo home run).

The Buttermakers (5-7, 4-6) play at Windom on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Heron Lake 5, Hadley 3

HERON LAKE -- Lon Eichenberger pitched seven strong innings Sunday afternoon, helping the Heron Lake Lakers claim a two-run victory over the Hadley Buttermakers in the first game of an amateur baseball doubleheader at Laker Field.

Eichenberger limited Hadley to three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out a pair of batters.

The Buttermakers' Derik Johnson (eight walks, three strikeouts) held Heron Lake to five runs and four hits in five-plus innings. Justin Reinsma hurled the sixth inning for Hadley.

Eric Milbrath went 2-for-3 with two RBI singles to lead Heron Lake at the plate, while Kirk McBreen and Evan Place each added an RBI single for the Lakers' only other hits.

Joe Larson (two runs) and Paul Counter (RBI single) were both 2-for-4 to account for Hadley's only base hits.

Mountain Lake 7, Heron Lake 5

HERON LAKE -- Dusty Pfeiffer's complete-game effort on the mound, and Lee Fast's 3-for-4, three-RBI performance at the plate helped lift the Mountain Lake Lakers to a two-run victory over Heron Lake in the nightcap of a First Nite League doubleheader at Laker Field Sunday evening.

Pfeiffer (six strikeouts, two walks) scattered eight hits and allowed Heron Lake just one run after a pair of two-run frames in the second and third innings. He also helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 with two RBI singles.

Fast doubled and cracked a pair of run-scoring singles in back-to-back three-run outputs for Mountain Lake -- a two-run base hit in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth.

Eric Johnson and Barrett Herrig collected two hits apiece for Mountain Lake, which earned its first win of the season.

Matt Franks (3 2/3 innings, four runs) and Evan Place (3 1/3 innings, three runs) shared the pitching duties for Heron Lake.

Place was 2-for-3 with a two-run single, while Ike Rogers and Lucas Knutson both cracked an RBI single for Heron Lake (9-8, 7-5). Alex Meyer, Chad Knutson, Ethan Duffy and Kirk McBreen had the other hits for the Lakers, who host Jackson Saturday.
