WILMONT -- Justin Saufley pitched seven strong innings Sunday afternoon, helping the Wilmont Cardinals claim a 7-2 victory over the Adrian A's in a season-opening Gopher League amateur baseball game at Butts Probst Field.

Saufley recorded nine strikeouts and allowed one run on four hits and no walks before Adam Diekmann tossed two innings of relief for Wilmont.

Jay Scheidt was 2-for-5 with two RBIs for the Cardinals, while Saufley, Nick Ahrens and Jesse Teerink each cracked an RBI single. Steven Kremer belted an RBI double, and Stuart Rogers also doubled for Wilmont.

Jeff Gacke hurled seven innings for Adrian (0-1), fanning 12 batters and allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks.

Levi Bullerman was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the A's, while Cody Kontz tagged a double. Glen Kruger and Zach Dingmann also had hits for Adrian.

Wilmont (1-0) hosts Jackson Friday night.

Fairmont 11, Heron Lake 1

HERON LAKE -- Pounding out 14 hits and taking advantage of seven Heron Lake errors Sunday afternoon, the Fairmont Martins earned an 11-1 victory over the Lakers in a First Nite League amateur baseball game at Laker Field.

Spencer Chirpich (3-for-5, three RBIs), Scott Chirpich (2-for-5, RBI), Tanner Nawrocki (2-for-5, two runs), Ian Bents (2-for-3) and Marcus Teachout (2-for-4) each had multiple hits to lead Fairmont at the plate.

Bents (six innings, three strikeouts) and Tyler Beck (two innings, three strikeouts) handled the pitching duties for the Martins (1-0).

Matt Franks pitched 5 2/3 innings for Heron Lake, striking out two batters and permitting seven runs on eight hits and three walks. Ethan Duffy and Alex Meyer pitched in relief for the Lakers.

Lon Eichenberger was 2-for-4 to pace Heron Lake offensively, while Eric Milbrath, Ben Scheevel and Ike Rogers were each 1-for-3 for the Lakers.

Heron Lake, which is 0-2 overall and 0-1 in league play, travels to Lamberton for a non-league game Wednesday night.

JACKSON -- Tom Hady got the win for Jackson and Ryan Rasche, Pat Rientz, Josh Wacker and Marcus Schultz each got multiple hits, as the Bulls pounded out 15 hits to Fox Lake's two in First Nite League action Sunday.

Windom 13, Mountain Lake 2

MOUNTAIN LAKE -- Trenton Anderson had a double and three RBIs and Kody Johnson was 3-for-5 with three doubles to lead the Windom Pirates over the Mountain Lake Lakers Sunday in First Nite League action.

Charlie Gunnink got the win on the mound for the Pirates.

Milroy 6, Hadley 5

HADLEY -- Isaac Dolan got the win on the mound and had two hits and two RBIs at the dish for the Milroy Irish in Gopher League action Sunday. Tyler Pederson (double) and Derek Riley each chipped in two hits for the Irish, as well.

Eric Wieneke was 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs, Joe Larson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two doubles and Kyle DeLong was 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Hadley Buttermakers.
