American Family Insurance Night full of racing action
WORTHINGTON -- American Family Insurance Night was full of excitement Sunday at the Nobles County Speedway, with the IMCA A-mods making their way back to the track along with the B-mods.
This coming Sunday night will include one of the biggest nights of racing action this summer and promises to serve as a perfect conclusion to Nobles County Fair. Here are the results from Sunday, Aug. 7:
Chad Lonnerman and Eric Gaul brought the field of competitors around to take the green. Coming into corner one, Gaul would fall back and Lonnerman jumped out front. Shane Klaassen, Dan Strandberg, Cory Probst and Justin Luinenburg were close behind.
Klaassen looked to the inside of Lonnerman as they came down the front stretch side by side. That's when John Ross would spin, bringing out the caution. As they went back green, Klaassen got around Lonnerman to take the top spot. Jerry Groenwold and Jeremy Van Ede moved past Luinenburg to battle for the fifth spot. Probst had passed Strandberg for third when Luinenburg and Matt Hanson would get together, bringing out another caution.
For a green-white-checkered finish, Klaassen would go on to get the win. Lonnerman placed second, Probst third, Groenwold fourth and Van Ede fifth.
Derek Steen jumped out front with Shane Fick moving up into second, with Wade Huisman, Chris Breen and Ryan Schuur rounding out the top five. As they all fell into line, Brandon Buyss came to a stop coming out of corner four and brought out the caution. Going back green, Kris Wilke moved past Schuur and took fifth place.
Steen went on to take the win at the checkered flag. Fick finished second, Huisman was third and Breen edged Buyss for fourth position.
Dustin Larson took the lead as they went green, and Jeffrey Larson moved into second. Rich Gregoire tried to hold off Chris Palsrock and Luke Saathoff, but they both would move past when Klaus Deuschle spun out to bring out the caution. As they went back green, Dustin got loose. He held off Jeffrey, but not for long -- Dustin (on the top) and Jeffrey (on the bottom) came down the back stretch and Jeffrey soon moved into the top spot. Palsrock, Saathoff, and Gregoire went three-wide for third, and Saathoff eventually passed Palsrock for third.
As they moved past the white flag, Ricky Prins experienced car trouble and brought out the caution flag. The race finished under caution, with Jeffrey taking the win, Dustin second, Saathoff third, Palsrock fourth and Gregoire rounding out the top five.
Justin Anderson and Jason Briese brought the cars around to take the green. Justin got out front and Briese fell back to fifth with Oliver Kollofski, Joe Anderson and Gary Oskerson all getting around him. Oskerson had moved into third when Briese spun, bringing out the caution.
As they went back green Justin was still out front with Kollofski and Oskerson running second and third, respectively. Briese, with a great start, moved back up into fourth while Joe Anderson dropped to fifth. Coming out of corner three Briese spun again, putting an end to his night.
Going green-white-checkered, Justin Anderson went on to get the win. Kollofski took second, Oskerson third, Joe Anderson fourth and Warren Vanweston fifth.
Dan Ahlers and Collen Deruyter led the field to take the green with Ahlers out front. Nick Johansen soon moved into second, Jason Fisher was third, Deruyter back in fourth and Steve Bents fifth. Ray Bertrand would spin to bring out the caution, and Ahlers would remain in front going back green. Johansen and Fisher were racing side-by-side for second when Mark Deboer spun, bringing out another caution.
As they went green once more, Johansen (on the bottom) looked to move past Ahlers, but Ahlers held him off. Josh Bonnstetter went high and Tracy Johnson moved past. Johansen was getting around Ahlers when the caution came out. The top five going back green were Johansen, Ahlers, Fisher, Johnson, and Bonnstetter.
Fisher, with a great start, pulled up to go side-by-side with Johansen when -- coming out of corner two -- Johnson and Bonnstetter got together for another caution flag. This moved Deruyter and Bents up into the top five. As they went green, Deruyter battled with Bents as they raced to the checkered flag. Johansen went on to get the win, with Ahlers placing second and Fisher third. Bents wound up in fourth and Deruyter fifth.
