Ann Barbara "Barb" Schreier

Ann Barbara Knowles Schreier was born on October 3, 1930 to Chris and May (Bricknell) Knowles at Keresley, Coventry England. She grew up in Coventry England. After her familys house was destroyed in World War II, she lived with her uncle Aubrey Stanbridge. Barbara received a scholarship to Barrs Hill Grammar School in Coventry England. She graduated from St. Marys Teachers College at the University of Bristol in Cheltenham, England. She taught at Copthorne Secondary Modern School in Coventry for 4 years. In June of 1956, she took a 3 month leave of absence to visit her uncle Roger Knowles in Tracy, Minnesota. It was there that she met her husband, John Schreier. They were united in marriage at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Currie, MN on December 29, 1956. Following their marriage they lived on the family farm near Currie. In 1989 they retired and moved to Currie. Her husband John passed away on April 17, 2012. Due to failing health Barbara moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton, MN and later to Morningside Heights in Marshall, MN. Barbara passed away on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Avera Medical Center in Marshall at the age of 83. Barbara was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Barbara did voluntary teaching at the Currie Catholic School and at St. Anns Church in Slayton. She was active in the Catholic Daughters of America and served as Currie Court Regent and for two terms as District Deputy. She sang in the church choir and enjoyed entertaining at local nursing homes. Barbara was a previous member of the Avoca Federated Womens Club. Barbara and John loved to travel worldwide. Her many hobbies included master gardener, sewing, playing cards, watching PBS television, going to musical and theatrical concerts. She especially enjoyed making Sunday dinner for her family at home or at the family cabin.

Survivors include two sons and two daughter-in-laws, Carl (Pamela) Schreier of Currie, MN, Allan Schreier of Belle Fourche, SD, Michelle Schreier of Currie, MN, seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren, one brother and two sisters, Roger Knowles, Pat (John) Jenks and Jean (David) Kimbrell all from England. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, John and son, Paul.

Funeral services will be at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Currie, MN on Friday, February 21st, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. James Seitz officiating. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery Currie, MN.

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at IHM Church in Currie from 4-7 p.m. with a CDA Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
