Anthony "Tony" Van't Hof

Tony Vant Hof was born on August 13, 1929 to Cornelius and Johanna (Schmidt) Vant Hof in rural Nobles County, Minnesota. He attended various country schools through the eighth grade.

Tony was united in marriage to Elizabeth Verbrugge on June 6, 1952 at the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with four children.

Tony farmed in the Leota area his entire life until they moved into Leota in October, 1991. Following his retirement, he worked buying and selling scrap iron and also worked at the Pipestone Sale Barn. But above all else, he enjoyed returning to the farm, helping his sons in the spring and fall, driving tractor and doing various farm work. After dealing with various health issues, Tony passed away on June 18, 2014 at the age of 84 years, 10 months, and 5 days at Edgebrook Care Center.

He enjoyed going for coffee at the Leota Caf where he could play a game of "Rook" with his friends. Other things he enjoyed during his lifetime were bowling, going to his daughter Donna for fried walleye, and watching the Minnesota Twins. But what brought him the most joy was to spend time with his grandchildren, whether just watching them play together, or in their competitive basketball, baseball and softball games.

He was a member of the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota, where he had served on the council. He also served on Leota Christian School board. Tony had just retired from the Leota Township Board on which he had served for 30 years.

Tony is lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth of Leota, two sons, Leon (Donna) of Leota, Gene (Brenda) of Leota, and two daughters, Donna (Micha) Gaspar of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Vonda (Rick) Danneman of Leota, 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is survived by his brothers, John, Leonard (Bertha), both of Edgerton, and a sister, Bertha Gilbertson, of Iona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Cornie Vant Hof, his sister Johanna Hubers, his brother-in-law Dewayne Gilbertson, and his sister-in-law Frances Vant Hof.

Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Friday at the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota. Funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 am at the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota.
