Area service organizations provide blankets for veterans
LUVERNE — More than 200 fleece stadium blankets with military logos will be delivered to area veterans today at the Sioux Falls Veterans Administration Health Care System in Sioux Falls, S.D., and the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.
The pre-holiday gift giving effort was coordinated by the Mankato Elks Lodge 225, with cooperative funding support from the Kenneth F. Kingsley American Legion Post 42 of Edgerton; the Schaap-Galagan American Legion Post 636 of Lismore; the Herbert Holtke American Legion Post 285 of Lake Wilson; the Earl Christopherson American Legion Post 274 of Milroy; and the Renville County Veterans Service Office of Olivia.
Veterans in every community need to be remembered beyond the holiday season, and area service organizations raise funds to support these awareness projects.
This is the second year service organizations in the targeted area were invited to participate. In other years donations were made to St. Cloud VA Hospital, County Service Officers, Special Southern MN VA housing efforts and Southern MN Honor Flights for WWII veterans.
