Arrows, Cardinals lead list of All-Southwest Conference

WORTHINGTON -- The Pipestone Area Arrows and the Luverne Cardinals led the All-Southwest Conference softball and baseball selections recently announced.

The PA softball team, off its second-place finish had six members on the SWC team, while the Luverne baseball team had four members selected.

Kayla Rowden, Chelsey Evans, Nicole Buysse, Brooke Henderson, Bailey Bouman and Amanda Monger were each selected from the Arrow softball team.

From Jackson County Central, Amanda Wagley, Megan Bezdicek, Kate Rentschler and Sara Luhmann were each named All-Conference from a JCC team that finished 10-2 in the conference.

Kat Dahl and Courtney Fodness were selected from Luverne, while Karissa Borsgard and Megan Mattson were selected from Windom.

Lynn Harberts was the lone Worthington selection to the All-Conference team.

PA's Steph Rudie was named an honorable mention, as was Kelsey Hakes from JCC, and Kelsey Theesfeld from Luverne.

Windom's Abby Lund and Alii Holt were also honorable mentions, while Rachel Pavelko from Worthington was also named an honorable mention.

On the baseball side of the SWC, Luverne's Zach Olson was the conference player of the year from a Cardinal team that finished 8-4 in the conference and second to Pipestone Area.

From the Arrow team that finished sixth in the state, Doug Mead, Greg Quist and Jon Schelhaas were named All-Conference, while Brandan Alfson and Chris Dougherty were both honorable mentions.

With Olson, Luverne's Phil Paquette, Brent Dinger and Zack Clark were named All-Conference, while Taylor VanSanten was an honorable mention.

From Worthington, Joe Ahrens and Steven Kremer were named All-Conference, while Mike Vorwald and Matt King were honorable mentions.

JCC's Ryan Rasche and Jason Cook were also All-Conference, while Pat Rients was an honorable mention.

From Windom, Brent Dumke and Bryce Grove were each named All-Conference.
