Arrows split with Thunder Hawks

PIPESTONE -- The Pipestone Area Arrows earned a split against the visiting Montevideo Thunder Hawks Saturday in non-conference baseball action.

In Game 1, the Thunder Hawks took advantage of five Arrow errors to snatch a 10-6 victory.

Cam Vien allowed two earned runs on five hits while striking out five and walking one over four innings to pick up the victory on the hill.

Mitchell Nelson suffered the loss for PA, giving up six earned runs on seven hits. Nelson struck out four and walked one in four innings of work.

Doug Mead was 2-for-4 with a double for the Arrows (12-6). Sam Bauer was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Chris Dougherty went 2-for-4, including a double and a home run to go along with two RBI. Sammy Schneider was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI.

Todd Bergeson was 3-for-5 with two RBI for Montevideo. Vien was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.

Bauer picked up a 14-4 victory for the Arrows in the nightcap as his team backed him up 15 hits for the game. Bauer gave up four earned runs on seven hits while striking out nine and walking one in the six-inning contest.

Greg Quist was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles for PA. Bauer was 3-for-3 and also hit two doubles. Brandon Alfson, Schneider (3 RBI) and Darrell Stout (2 RBI) each went 2-for-3 on the day.

The Arrows will play a doubleheader against LQPV today in Madison.
