Ashton's Town and Country Day is Saturday
ASHTON, Iowa -- Although the rainy weather has postponed the antique tractor pull, plenty of other events will go on Saturday for Ashton's Town and Country Day celebration.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, a Texas softball tournament gets under way. Each batter starts with a full count, and it is a double elimination tournament.
"Last year, we had an old-timers game, and everyone enjoyed it, so we thought we would bring back a ball tournament this year," said Town and Country Day club member Mary Johnson. "Players like this tournament because it is quick."
The recent heavy rains left water standing on the field where the tractor pull was to take place. The event will be rescheduled, but antique tractors will still be on display. Tractors can register at 8 a.m. with judging to begin at 11 a.m.
Children's games at the park will go from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and food will be served throughout the day.
Visitors to the celebration can look for treasures at the flea market and craft show taking place at the north end of the city's ballpark during the day on Saturday.
The DeBoer Grocery Museum will be open for tours, and the public is invited to come see the newest exhibit, "Marie Boer Media Locker."
Town and County Day will end with a street dance, featuring music by the The Rave Mobile, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday.
"The weather is supposed to be beautiful," Johnson said. "It will be a fun day in the park with something for the whole family."
