Avera Medical Group purchases Johnson Eye Clinic
WORTHINGTON — Johnson Eye Clinic of Worthington has been purchased by Avera Medical Group, according to a press release issued Monday.
The purchase represents a joint venture between Avera McKennan and Avera Marshall to expand eyecare services and access to specialists. Optometrists Dr. Roger Johnson and Dr. Wally Johnson will continue to practice at the newly named Avera Medical Group Optometry Worthington.
Both Avera McKennan and Avera Marshall have expanded eye care services in recent years, with acquisitions and expansions in several Minnesota and South Dakota communities. Access to ophthalmologists who provide specialized care allows optometrists to provide local care and offer a referral when needed.
The location, phone numbers and staff at Avera Medical Group Optometry Worthington will remain the same.
“I am confident our new relationship with Avera will allow me to focus on the needs of my patients,” said Dr. Roger Johnson.
His partner and brother, Dr. Wally Johnson, echoed his statement.
“Patients will only notice the name change,” he said. “We are grateful to be part of this community and to continue offering eye care to patients of all ages.”
Mary Maertens, CEO/President of Avera Marshall, acknowledged the long-standing presence Johnson Eye Care Clinic has provided to Worthington.
“Being able to access needed care is so important to residents in rural areas,” she said. “We are confident that the tradition of providing eye care will be enhanced for residents in the Worthington area, with continued personal service and access to eye professionals.”
Other Avera Medical Group Optometry locations include Marshall, Windom, Redwood Falls, Springfield and Tracy.
