Balaton man killed in crash on MN 62

WINDOM -- A Balaton man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening in Cottonwood County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Jason W. Steffes, 39, of Balaton, was deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred at 6:03 p.m. Tuesday on Minnesota 62, west of Windom. Cody D. Falk, 24, of St. James, was driving a 2011 Ford Super Duty pickup truck eastbound on 62, while Steffes was westbound, driving a 2008 Ford Taurus. The two vehicles collided head-on in the westbound lane.

Falk and a passenger in his vehicle, Nathan R. Gisch, 20, of Mountain Lake, were transported to Windom Area Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were a total loss.

Assisting at the scene were the Cottonwood County Sheriff's Office, Windom Police Department, Windom Ambulance, Windom Fire Department, Heron Lake Fire Department and Minnesota Department of Transportation.
