On the ballot 2012: Jack Kelly
Name: Jack Kelly
Occupation: Taught industrial arts and coached at Windom High School, Windom, for 34 years. I have owned/operated my own irrigation/landscaping businesses until present.
What prompted you to run for county commissioner? With the retirement of Dr. Ron Kuecker, a long-term Cottonwood County District II Commissioner, the opportunity presented itself to run for District II Commissioner as it became open and I felt it would be an opportunity to represent District II and the rest of Cottonwood County.
Do you have experience in leadership or local government? The leadership qualities that I have are experience in 35 years of coaching/teaching, member of the Windom Fire Department, EMT and Emergency squad, Business Arts & Recreation Center board member, Baseball Association, Minnesota State Basketball Coaching Association, President of Boys State Basketball Coaches Association and a member of the Minnesota State High School League, both as an official for football and basketball and an officials evaluator.
What do you think is the most important issue in your county? I think the biggest challenge for being a County Commissioner is the responsibility to set the budget to cover the needs of Cottonwood County with the income and resources that has been reduced by Minnesota legislators.
Did the recent redistricting influence your decision to run? No, because the redistricting took place in 2000.
