Baseball: Fairmont trips Trojans, 6-1
FAIRMONT -- Bryce Holm pitched 6 2/3 solid innings Monday afternoon, leading the Fairmont Cardinals to a 6-1 victory over the Worthington Trojans in a non-conference high school baseball game.
Holm struck out eight batters and issued only one walk to earn the win. Luke Becker and Levi Becker ripped two hits apiece to lead Fairmont at the plate.
"Fairmont is a very good team," Worthington head coach Stacy Sauerbrei said. "They pitch well and play good defense. They also have some real solid hitters at the top of their lineup."
Ryan Lee, Aaron Pavelko, Tristan Sorensen and Turner Hagen each saw time on the mound for Worthington. Sorenson struck out four batters in two innings of work.
Nathan Ray singled to lead off the top of the seventh and scored on an RBI single by Sorenson to give the Trojans their only run of the game.
Lee, Pavelko and Deron Soderholm also had a hit apiece for Worthington (2-2), which hosts Jackson County Central in a doubleheader today beginning at 4 p.m. at the Minnesota West field.
