Beef educational tour planned

ST. PAUL -- "Cowboys, Cattle, Culture in the Nebraska Sandhills" is a week-long tour conducted by JRB Associates, Inc. in cooperation with the Minnesota Beef Council, from Oct. 7-13. Participants will experience the raising of beef cattle, cowboy poetry and music in the heart of Cattle Country.

Tour highlights include a visit to Wolf Creek Dairy Dundas, MN, Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor at LeMars, Iowa, Ashfall Fossil Beds at Orchard, Neb., Wulf Cattle feedyards near Bassett/Arkinson, Neb, Nebraska's largest wind energy site at Ainsworth, ranch visits hosted by Ainsworth area ranchers, Valentine Livestock Auction Market for the regular Thursday cattle auction, and share a consumer lesson in meat selection at Henderson IGA. The week will conclude with two days of activities at the 22nd annual Nebraska Cowboy Music and Poetry Gathering and Old West Days.

Tour hosts are Juanita Reed-Boniface, retired U of M Extension Educator, Colleen Zenk, Director of Nutrition and Consumer Information for the Minnesota Beef Council and Dick Boniface, retired Field Service and Public Relations Director, North Central Wool Marketing Corp.

Registration and a deposit are due Aug. 1. Early registration is encouraged as the trip is limited to 30 people. The cost includes chartered coach, six nights lodging, group meals, admissions and administrative costs. A few meals will be on your own. The tour will be canceled if minimum number of participants is not met and deposits will be refunded.
