Craig Clark, Worthington City Administrator, said city officials are looking forward to having people tour the Biotechnology Advancement Center.

"We're excited about opening up the facility and showcasing what we have available for business and biotechnology enhancement in the community," said Clark. "It's a project we've worked on for numerous years now. We want to generate awareness for the facility and what it can do for businesses in the community."

The open house will include a retirement reception from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. in honor of Colleen Gengler's 38-year career with University of Minnesota Extension. Gengler is retiring in early January.

From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., visitors will sample locally-produced wines and apples researched by the University of Minnesota. A presentation on the Biotechnology Advancement Center will be given at 4:30 p.m., giving recognition to many of the funding partners who helped make the BAC a reality.

"We really want to focus on the programs that are being designed for the building," said WREDC manager Glenn Thuringer. "We have a lot of great things that are being developed, and we're going to encourage people to learn more about the programs.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated for 5 p.m., with tours of the facility offered throughout the event.

Several entities have donated gift baskets, which will be awarded as door prizes for those who attend.
