ADRIAN — Tuesday night’s clash in Adrian between the Dragons and Hills-Beaver Creek provided just a preview of what is to come in the Section 3A boys basketball tournament. 


The teams will turn around and square with each other this Saturday, on a day dubbed as “Super Saturday” at Worthington High School. But this time, the Patriots were victorious, 81-71.

H-BC was able to defeat the Dragons thanks to a big night from Dylan Gehrke. Gehrke did it all, scoring 28 points to accompany 12 rebounds, five assists and two steals. Isaac Tilstra added 17 for the Patriots. Braden Ellingson and Carey Taubert also contributed 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Adrian’s Taylor Recker dropped in 20 and Nick Reyne dumped in 18 to go with six assists.

Spirit Lake 88, Jackson County Central 87

JACKSON — Jackson County Central had a chance to send the game to overtime at the line. But down by two, they could only convert one of the pair as Spirit Lake prevailed in a gut-wrenching showdown.

Junior Alec Henrickson scored a game-high 36 points for the Indians. Sophomore Billy Brown had a big night as well, pouring in 28.

John Harmening recorded another double double, scoring 23 points along with 16 rebounds. Colton Timmer and Bodey Behrends each dropped in 15 points and Behrends also corralled 10 boards. Zach Schwarting added 14 and Darnell Taylor-Breck 13.

Pipestone Area 72, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 61

PIPESTONE — The Pipestone Area Arrows drew fouls and converted three-point plays to distance themselves from the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knights in the second half, following a tightly contested first half.

Boyer Bouman had 20 points for the Arrows, Justin Rops poured in 19 while Dominic Freese added 11.

A trio of Bretts led the Knights. Vercruysse scored 22, Peterson scored 21 and Knudsen had 15.

Blue Earth Area 70, Luverne 63

LUVERNE — Luke Monson had an enormous night for the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers as they downed the Luverne Cardinals.

Monson finished with 33 points and 15 rebounds. Kellen Jacobs also recorded double figures in scoring with 18.

Josh Slieter has been a consistent scorer for Luverne all year and Tuesday night was no different. Slieter finished with 19 points and seven rebounds. Nicholas Overgaard added 18 and Nolan Sawtelle had 15 points to go with six rebounds and four assists.

Windom Area 70, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 58

TRACY — Led by Jacob Gotto’s 25 points and nine rebounds, the Windom Area Eagles had four players score in double figures for a win over T-M-B.

The Eagles outrebounded their hosts 26-20 in the win. Sam Huska posted 14 points for the Eagles, Kyle Antes 12 and Bryce Bever 11. Spencer Smith paved the way for the Panthers with 20 points. Derek Larson chipped in 11.

The win pushes Windom Area to 9-15 as it closes up the regular season. The Panthers fell to 13-12.

Mountain Lake Area 63, Murray County Central 49

SLAYTON — Mountain Lake Area led by just one point at halftime, but it pulled away for a 14-point win on the road at Murray County Central.

Senior guard Cody Klassen led the Wolverines with 19 points, Andrew Hempeck poured in 16 and Carter Kirk 10. MCC’s TJ Van Peursem had 14 points to pace the Rebels on their home floor and Grant Everson offered 12.

MLA climbed to 21-2 and Murray County Central dropped to 9-16.
