HILLS -- A large crowd packed into the Hills-Beaver Creek High School gymnasium Thursday night, as a pair of top-notch Red Rock Conference boys' basketball teams squared off.
Forcing 27 turnovers -- getting 16 of them as steals -- the host Patriots pulled away for an impressive 74-58 victory over Westbrook-Walnut Grove.
Halden Van Wyhe, who scored a game-high 24 points, had seven of those steals, while also dishing off six assists for H-BC (11-4, 5-3).
Andrew Scholten (nine rebounds) and Terence Reid (seven rebounds) each scored 14 points for the Patriots, who had just six turnovers in the whole game.
Heath Van Wyhe contributed 13 timely points for H-BC, giving the Patriots four double-figure scorers.
The Chargers (11-3, 6-2), who held several leads in the first half, also had four players score in double figures, including two boys with double-doubles.
Jace Jarmer had 14 points and 14 rebounds for W-WG, while Derek Eichner came up with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Mason Comnick and Jon LeBoutillier scored 15 and 12 points, respectively, for the Chargers, who play at Adrian Saturday night.
H-BC is on the road tonight, traveling to Lamberton to face Red Rock Central.

EDGERTON -- All 11 players who dressed scored for Southwest Christian, as the Eagles stretched a five-point halftime lead into a 15-point win over Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin.
Derek Tinklenberg (nine points, four assists, two steals) was the Eagles' (6-4, 4-3) top scorer, while Nic Pfeifle (eight points, seven rebounds), Jared Mouw (eight points) and Zach Huisken (seven points, seven rebounds, five assists, four steals) combined for 23 points.
Sophomore Isaac Hildebrandt netted a game-high 14 points to lead the Wolverines (4-8, 1-5),
ML/B-O's Kyle Fast and Steven Herrig each scored eight points, while Beau Herrig pulled down seven rebounds.
The Wolverines, who had 24 turnovers, travel back to Edgerton Saturday to tangle with the Flying Dutchmen.
The Eagles travel to Okabena for a key conference clash against SSC.

ROUND LAKE -- Nate Reyne scored 20 points and claimed eight rebounds as Adrian won in dominating fashion on the road against Round Lake-Brewster.
Danny Parsley, Brian Tjepkes (eight assists) and Jesse Brake (five steals) contributed 18, 15 and 10 points, respectively, for the Dragons (10-2, 7-1), who host Westbrook-Walnut Grove Saturday.
Dillon Hansen scored a game-high 21 points and had six rebounds for the Raiders (1-11, 0-7), who play at Fulda Saturday.

LAMBERTON -- The duo of Codi Gunnink and Alex Elgersma scored 18 and 15 points, respectively, to lead the Flying Dutchmen to an eight-point win over host Red Rock Central.
Edgerton (5-7, 3-5) opened up a 13-point lead late in the game, but the Falcons (4-8, 2-5) trimmed the margin to four before the Dutchmen took control again.
Brian Benedict had a big night for RRC (15 points, 12 rebounds), while both Tyler Erickson and Jake Fredrickson scored 10 points.
The Falcons host H-BC tonight in a girl-boy doubleheader, while EHS hosts ML/B-O Saturday.

SLAYTON -- Ben Scheevel scored 17 points in the second half, including an 8-of-9 performance at the free-throw stripe, as Southwest Star Concept broke open a tight contest with stellar defense after the intermission and claimed an 18-point victory over host Murray County Central.
Scheevel finished with 25 points, 11 rebounds and four assists for the Quasars (7-4, 4-3).
William Cranston netted 11 first-half points and finished with 15 for SSC, while Kirk McBreen scored nine points and Cory Pelzel distributed seven assists.
MCC's Kyle DeLong scored 20 points to lead the Rebels (4-8, 3-5), while both Kyle Lewis and Mark Bau had eight points each in the first half.
The Rebels were 14-of-48 from the field, but made just four of 24 shots in the second half.
The Quasars, meanwhile, were 21-of-56 from the field for the game.
SSC hosts Southwest Christian Saturday night and MCC travels to Ellsworth the same evening.

TRACY -- Despite not shooting a free throw until seven seconds remained in the game, the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers earned a 13-point victory over the visiting Luverne Cardinals.
Dominic Dolan scored 15 points to lead the Panthers (11-4), while Isaac Dolan had eight points to go along with 11 rebounds.
The Cardinals, who made 12 of 20 free throws, were led by Ryan Hoff and Landon Gacke with 11 and eight points, respectively.
Luverne (2-13) hosts Pipestone Area Tuesday and T-M-B hosts Dawson-Boyd the same night.
