Boys basketball: SWU trips H-BC by a point; Windom Area comes close at Redwood Valley
HILLS — With Hill-Beaver Creek leading 22-11 in the first half, the Southwestern United Wildcats fired themselves up and outscored the Patriots 26-8 for the rest of the second half. They took a seven point lead into the break toward a 60-59 victory in boys basketball action at Hills Friday night.
H-BC came back and cut it to within one with 10 seconds left in the game and possession of the ball. The Patriots took a contested shot inside and missed it as SWU escaped with a conference victory in a nail-bitter.
Aaron Fest led the Wildcats with 15, and Walker Crocker chipped in 13. Senior Brandon Thurk had a double double, scoring 11 points while clutching ten rebounds. Trey Cranston and Zach Schumacher each scored ten.
Dylan Gehrke scored 20 for H-BC. Carey Tolbert had a double double as well with 19 points and ten rebounds. Brady Ellingson added 12 for the Patriots.
Hills-Beaver Creek is now 7-10 overall and 6-6 in the conference. SWU improves to 7-3 in the conference and 8-6 overall.

Redwood Valley 60, Windom Area 56
REDWOOD FALLS — Redwood Valley junior San Pendleton made several trips to the free throw line in the closing minutes and helped his Cardinals put away Windom Area.
The Eagles led by seven points late in the game, but a turn of events in the closing four minutes turned the tides in favor of the home squad. Pendleton scored 31 points in the contest.
Jacob Gotto scored 16 points, handed out five assists and grabbed eight rebounds for Windom Area. Sam Huska collected seven rebounds and scored a dozen points.

Ellsworth 67, Fulda 33
ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth Panthers prevailed over the Fulda Raiders in a Red Rock Conference matchup.
Justin Kruse scored 14 for the Panthers and seized seven rebounds. Drew Cheskie also had 7 rebounds and scored 13.
Fulda was led by Cole Dierks and Josh Ramerth, each with seven points.
Ellsworth improves to 15-5 overall and 10-3 in the conference. Fulda falls to 2-16 and 2-12 in the conference.

Southwest Christian 72, Murray County Central 49
SLAYTON — Leighton Sampson scored 29 points as the Southwest Minnesota Christian Eagles handled the Murray County Central Rebels for a comfortable Red Rock Conference win.
Sampson also blocked four shots and snatched nine rebounds. Nate Pfiefle knocked down four three-pointers to post 16 points. Luke Nibbelink also scored nine points for SWC.
Grant Rohrer led the Rebels with 13 points and nine rebounds. Grant Everson also scored nine to go with four assists.
SWC is now 14-2 overall and 11-1 in conference play. MCC falls to 7-12 overall and 6-6 in the conference.

Mountain Lake Area 82, Edgerton 32
MOUNTAIN LAKE — Mountain Lake Area kept its perfect tally in the Red Rock Conference intact with a big win over Edgerton.
Senior guard Cody Klassen posted 22 points to lead the host Wolverines. Josh Grev added 10 while Josh Kirk’s six points went with 14 boards and eight assists. Edgerton’s junior forward Riley Van Klei led the Flying Dutchmen with eight points.
MLA improved to 17-1 overall and 12-0 in the Red Rock Conference. Edgerton is 1-13 overall and 1-10 in the league.

Adrian 75, Red Rock Central 50
ADRIAN — Adrian distanced itself in the second half for a 25-point win over visiting Red Rock Central.
Adrian junior Taylor Recker led all scorers with 32 points and 14 rebounds. Nick Reyne scored 22 for the Dragons and Brady Lonneman 12.
Thomas Blomgren led the Falcons with 17 points. Sam Halter tacked on 10.
Adrian moved to 6-13 overall and 5-9 in the Red Rock Conference. Red Rock Central remained winless.

Central Lyon 69, Boyden-Hull 53
ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa — Grant Metzger and Nic Lutmer led Central Lyon to a hard-fought victory over Boyden-Hull.
Metzger scored 23 points to go with nine rebounds. Nic Lutmer added 21 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. CJ Roths dished out seven assists.
Justin Schmidt had 16 points for Boyden-Hull and Kirk Prostrollo dumped in 11. Kyle Bakker contributed a steady ten points as well.
Boyden-Hull dropped to 8-10 and 5-9 in the Siouxland Conference as Central Lyon improved to 11-6 overall and 8-6 in the Siouxland.

GEORGE, Iowa — Andrew O’Donnell led the Sioux Center Warriors to a victory over the George-Little Rock Mustangs.
O’Donnell scored 20 points to propel the Warriors to a 13-2 record on the season.
G-LR was led by Tanner Ver Steg with 25 points. David Aiekens added 11 and Jesse Koerselman grabbed 10 rebounds.
G-LR is now 6-9 overall and 5-8 in conference play.
