BOYS HOCKEY: Honius, Johnson, Oberloh lift Trojans in loss

MORRIS -- Kody Honius had two goals, while Andrew Johnson and Jacob Oberloh also scored as Worthington dropped a Southwest Conference boys hockey game against Morris/Benson Area 11-4 on Saturday.

In a first period that featured seven goals, the Storm took a 4-3 lead after 17 minutes.

Honius had the Trojans ahead 2-1 about 7½ minutes into the game. After Brody Gimberlin handed the Storm a 1-0 lead, Honius responded with back-to-back tallies at the 14:45 and the 9:34 marks.

But Morris/Benson took the lead for good by scoring six of the next seven goals.

Tanner Picht, Tanner Mickelson and Bo Olson all scored as the Storm went in front 4-2.

After Johnson capped the first period with a Worthington goal, Morris/Benson received second-period tallies from Picht, Andrew Rentz and Lincoln Pahl to lead 7-3 after 34 minutes.

Mac Beyer had both of his goals in the third period, while Picht completed a hat trick. When Oberloh scored with 9:41 left, the Trojans trailed 8-4.

Gimberlin capped the scoring with his second goal of the game.

Morris/Benson Area outshot Worthington 44-26. The Storm (4-6 overall) converted 1 of 2 power play chances, while the Trojans (1-8 overall) were 0 of 3.

Austin Crow was the winning goalie after making 22 saves on 26 shots. Alex Purdy had 33 saves on 44 shots.

Achiever NE Academy 5, Windom Area 2

WINDOM -- Three third-period goals carried Achiever NE Academy to a non-conference victory over Windom Area on Saturday.

Cameron Hamblett (power play), Baron Thompson and Ryan Finnegan (shorthanded) all scored in the final 17 minutes as the Aces (6-5-1 overall) posted the win.

Achiever Academy, which was 3 of 5 in power-play chances, also received man-advantage goals twice from Brennan McGuire.

After McGuire scored in the first period, the Eagles (8-4-0 overall) tied the game a 1 on a Zach Bartosh goal.

In the second period, Eric Haberman's goal gave Windom Area a 2-1 lead, but McGuire struck again on the power play at the 4:50 mark.

Bartosh and Travis Janssen were credited with assisting Haberman.

The Eagles, who failed to convert any of their five power-play chances, outshot the Aces 28-25.

Parker Butler was the winning goalie after making 26 saves on 28 shots. Ben Stubbe had 20 saves on 25 shots.

Luverne 4, Dodge County 2

LUVERNE -- Gunnar Olsen and Skyler Wenninger scored the final two goals as Luverne defeated Dodge County in a non-conference game Saturday.

Olson broke a 2-all tie in the second period with a shorthanded tally at the 10:06 mark. He was assisted by Logan Norman, whose power-play goal 1:40 into the period was set up by Toby Sengvongxay and Olson as the Cardinals took a 2-1 lead.

Luverne's one-goal edge was erased at the 13:57 mark by Dodge County's Tanner Dufault, who scored to tie the game at 2.

Wenninger sealed the win for the Cardinals with 30 seconds left. His shorthanded tally, which came with an empty net, was assisted by Sengvongxay and Austin Maxwell.

The Wildcats (4-10-1 overall) led 1-0 on Christian Schillo's first-period goal. Luverne tied the game at 1 on a goal from Travis Frakes, who was set up by Norman and Chaz Smedsrud.

The Cardinals (9-2-1 overall) held a 46-18 advantage in shots on-goal. Luverne was 1 of 3 on the power play, while Dodge County finished 0 of 5.

Kendall Meyer was the winning goalie, making 16 saves on 18 shots. Mitch Sobotta had 42 saves on 45 shots.
