Brief: Farmers Market week to be marked

WORTHINGTON -- Someone will win a basket of locally grown goodies at the Downtown Worthington Farmers Market during National Farmers Market Week Aug. 1-7.

Twenty-seven markets throughout the state have signed on to the "Eat Local Challenge" sponsored by the Minnesota Grown Program and the Minnesota Farmers Market Association. People may pick up a Minnesota Grown window cling or bumper sticker at the Tuesday night market and display it on their vehicle. The driver of one of the vehicles spotted with a bumper sticker Tuesday, Aug. 3 could win a large basket of local produce.

"We're encouraging Minnesotans to eat locally grown foods by shopping at their farmers markets and supporting their local economy," said Minnesota Grown spokesman Paul Hugunin. "And they'll have a chance to win a basket of fresh food at the same time."

The Downtown Worthington Farmers Market is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays at 10th Street and Second Avenue.
