Brief: Food, shelter grants available

WORTHINGTON -- Southwest Minnesota Opportunity Council, Inc., has received nearly $11,000 from the FEMA Emergency Food and Shelter National Board program to supplement local emergency programs.

The funds assist people dealing with non-disaster related emergencies.

Agencies are required to apply to SMOC for grants by Friday. In the past, Nobles County grant recipients have included the Manna Food Pantry and Worthington Christian Church Food Shelf.

Applicants must be private voluntary non-profits or units of government, have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and shelter programs and, if they are a private voluntary organization, must have a voluntary board.
