WORTHINGTON -- Eleven bands from Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota competed for caption awards Saturday during the King Turkey Day parade.

The West Central Marching Trojans from Hartford, S.D., earned the top band score. West Central also took top honors in the color guard category and earned the People's Choice Award for an original parade show featuring the "Pink Panther" theme song. The West Central band is under the direction of Danny Eye.

The outstanding drum line award went to The Marching Chargers from Sioux Falls, S.D., Christian High School, under the direction of Jane Newman. The Marching Dragons from Adrian earned the outstanding drum major award. The Dragons are directed by newcomer Danielle Miller.

As hosts of the parade band competition, the Spirit of Worthington Trojan Marching Band and the Worthington Middle School band did not compete. The Northern State University Marching Wolves from Aberdeen, S.D., under the direction of Boyd Perkins, were a special guest band this year and performed in both parade and field exhibition.
