According to the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office, a 911 call was received Tuesday regarding a stabbing in the 25000 block of Teresa Avenue.

Mark Scheerhoom, 53, of Spirit Lake, was taken into custody for allegedly stabbing his 51-year-old brother Scot Scheerhoom. The two had gotten involved in an altercation, and Scot had gotten stabbed in the hand and about the head.

"While the scene was being secured, they ran across evidence of a grow operation," said Dickinson County Sheriff Greg Baloun.

Authorities obtained a search warrant and executed it at the residence. They seized 65 marijuana plants in various growth stages, along with equipment used in the manufacture of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Scot was transported by ambulance to the Lakes Regional Healthcare, where he was treated and released. He was then arrested and booked into the Dickinson County Jail.

"Both are still in jail," Baloun said Friday afternoon.

Neither brother, Baloun said, had a criminal history, and had not been under suspicion for illegal activity before the 911 call.

Scot is charged with assault while participating in a felony, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, manufacturing a controlled substance and failure to affix drug tax stamp.

Mark is charged with willful injury, interference with official acts, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, manufacture of a controlled substance and failure to affix drug tax stamp.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Spirit Lake Police Department, Okoboji Police Department, Arnolds Park Police Department and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
