Burglaries plague Lyon County

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa -- An Appleton, Wis., man was arrested Sunday following a string of burglaries in Lyon County.

The Hawarden Police Department arrested Daniel Joseph Detaege, 49, while the suspect was in the act of committing a burglary at the Ireton elevator.

Detaege admitted during an interview with law enforcement that he committed all of the multiple Lyon County burglaries committed on Friday night and Saturday morning.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office received calls on nine burglary calls to businesses throughout the county. Elevators in Edna, Rock Rapids, Doon, Alvord, Lester and Larchwood all were burglarized, along with two additional businesses in Inwood and one business in Larchwood.

It appears the burglar was after money, a press release from the sheriff's office said.

Detaege faces three counts of third-degree burglary, one count of third-degree criminal mischief, one count of fourth-degree criminal mischief, and one count of fifth-degree criminal mischief. More charges are pending within Lyon County.

Detaege is currently being held in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City, Iowa.
