Alyssa Marie Zamarron died Sunday evening at Sanford Children's Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

According to Nobles County Sheriff Kent Wilkening, rescue personnel were dispatched at 8:30 p.m. Saturday to the 32700 block of 160th Street for a report of an ATV accident with injuries.

Two girls had been riding the four-wheeler and hit a tree, Wilkening said.

Brewster Rescue, Worthington Ambulance and the Nobles County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.

Both children were transported by ambulance to Sanford Worthington Medical Center, and Zamarron was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.

"We got a call last night that she had passed away," Wilkening said.

That call came in at approximately 8:40 p.m. Sunday night, he said.

The victim's name was initially withheld pending notification of family. Wilkening did not have information on the condition of the child who had been a passenger on the ATV, other than she had been treated at Sanford Worthington Medical Center.

Zamarron was a fourth-grade student at Prairie Elementary School, and, according to principal Josh Noble, counselors were in the classrooms she normally attended Monday to help the students.

While the school isn't organizing a formal grief counseling session, it has counselors and social workers on hand to assist any students who have questions or need to talk.

"If the parents have any questions or concerns, we will be available to help," Noble stated. "If they need assistance, we encourage them to call."

For counseling assistance information, call Prairie Elementary at 727-1250.

The funeral service for Zamarron is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in rural George, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jurrens Funeral Home, Sibley, Iowa.
