Christmas in July comes to Adrian
ADRIAN -- Don't you just wish that there was a second Christmas during the year?
Well, there may not be presents, but there will be a second Christmas for many when the annual Christmas in July takes place Friday through Sunday in Adrian. Festivities, as always, will be geared toward children and adults of all ages.
There are different annual events that go on every year during Christmas in July, but this year will be different. The first "Ribs and Rims" car show and cookout is hoping to draw a lot of people.
"This is probably going to be huge on Friday night," said Ray Bullerman, president of the Adrian Town and Country Association. "We have 500 pounds of ribs made by Lynch Livestock, and with the ribs you get baked beans, chips, ice cream and pop or water.
"Concerning the cars part of the show, we will take cars, pickups, tractors, semis, motorcycles and anything with a rim," Bullerman added.
"Ribs and Rims" was a collective idea brought into reality by Bullerman and others, and the money is also going to a good cause.
"One-hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the Adrian, Ellsworth, Rushmore and Lismore fire departments and the Adrian Ambulance," Bullerman said. "After the bills are paid, everything we have left will be split up between them. And, it will be a free-will once you get there."
There are still spots available for those who want to bring a car to the show. Contact Julie Winselman at (507) 483-2669 to register a vehicle; it's free to do so.
Beyond "Ribs and Rims," Christmas in July has annual events that have been around for years and still draw crowds.
"The Kiddie Tractor Pull is usually pretty good," Bullerman said. "We get a lot of kids to come in on that."
The parade is also one of the main attractions that bring people to Christmas in July every year. Homemade floats going down Maine Street are not be missed, Bullerman said.
