Clara Marigold Staubus

Clara Marigold Lundeen Staubus, 96, passed away at home on May 28, 2014. She was born on March 23, 1918, in Graham Lakes Township, Nobles County, to parents Fred and Emma Malenke Lundeen. Clara attended a small country school for a time and later attended school in Slayton. On August 20, 1938, Clara married Dayton "Bud" Staubus in Sioux Falls, SD. They raised their family in Worthington and were married for 67 years until Buds death in 2006.

Clara was a hardworking, kind-hearted individual whose faith in God was central to her life. Over the years she worked as a nurses aide, salesperson for Montgomery Wards, Worthington Welcome Wagon Ambassador, home health care provider, and part-time seamstress and crafter. She also provided clerical help for Buds Conoco service station.

She served her community by teaching Sunday school, vacation Bible school, Wednesday release-time classes, delivering Meals on Wheels, and serving on the Federal Grand Jury for a year. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Worthington and the Worthington Hospital Auxiliary.

By far her most cherished job was that of wife and mother. She lovingly raised two daughters and served as chef, holiday planner, gardener, and seamstress for her family. When Buds health declined, she took on the role of devoted caregiver. She adored her six grandchildren, showering them with love and many hand-made gifts, thereby earning the title of "Grandmother Extraordinaire." In her later years, Clara resided at The Meadows in Worthington, where she appreciated her friends and the compassionate, caring staff.

Survivors include her two daughters, Esther (James) Strom of Bloomington, MN and Barbara Staubus Miller of Palmer, TX, six grandchildren: Christopher Strom (fiance, Regina Jun), Jeffrey Strom (Ariane), Sarah Reed (Josh), Mackenzie Miller, Hannah Miller, and Chelsea Miller as well as many nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Yvonne Staubus. Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Bud, and her three siblings: Verna Lange, Gladys Solem, and Edwin Lundeen.

Memorial services will be held at 11 am on July 19, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Worthington with Rev. Jonah Beckermann officiating. Interment will be at the Worthington Cemetery.

Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
