College baseball: Bluejays beat Dordt JV twice

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — After losing their first 10 games of the 2014 spring baseball season, the Minnesota West baseball team put two in the win column Wednesday, beating host Dordt JV 8-2 and 4-3.

West used a six-run fourth inning to top Dordt in the opener. Colin Brons went the distance on the mound, recording nine strikeouts, for the victory.

Eric Koob went 2-for-3 at the plate and drilled a two-run single.

In the second game, Trent Carlson was the winning pitcher, going four and one-third innings and allowing two earned runs. Koob pitched an inning and two-thirds and Brons finished up to get the save.

Dustin Pronk had a hit and two RBI for West.

“We played clean baseball and we finished that last game,” said Bluejays coach TD Hostikka.

Minnesota West is at home Saturday in a doubleheader against Riverland. The first game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
