DAILY GLOBE

WORTHINGTON — The errors and the mental lapses that have plagued the Minnesota West Lady Jays for much of the 2014 softball season largely took a breather on Saturday.

Minnesota West played solid softball in a doubleheader against Anoka-Ramsey at the college field, winning on scores of 10-5 and 3-2.

After falling behind 4-3 in the third inning of the first game, West took control with three runs in the third and two each in the fourth and fifth. Starting pitcher Christine Kazemba, who went the full seven innings, checked the Golden Rams on eight hits while walking just one and striking out two.

Only three of Anoka-Ramsey’s five runs were earned.

Brittney Hermeling went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run, an RBI and three stolen bases. Jurnea Harberts also went 2-for-4, with two runs scored. Macey Edwards drove in three runs.

In the nightcap, Harberts went the distance in the pitcher’s circle, allowing one earned run while walking one and striking out four.

Lindsey Drooger was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and a stolen base. Kazemba was 2-for-3 with a two-run triple in the third inning that put the Lady Jays in front to stay.

The Lady Jays, who are 5-14 on the season, have another busy week ahead of them starting at Austin against Riverland Community College today. On Tuesday, they travel to play Rochester.
