College softball: Lady Jays win season finale

ROCHESTER — In what has been trying season for Minnesota West, the Lady Jays were able to finish the season on a high note.

After dropping the opener of their season-ending doubleheader at Rochester Community and Technical College Sunday by an 8-1 final, West came back for a convincing 7-2 victory in the nightcap.

“It was a lot of fun,” Lady Jays coach Rosalie Hayenga-Hostikka said. “Rochester is the conference champion and the No. 1 seed going into regionals so to play a strong game against them was great.I’m just so happy for our sophomores.”

Jurnea Harberts went all seven innings and allowed just two runs on five hits and struck out four for the win. Christine Kazemba was 2-for-5 with an RBI triple in the third with Bailey Tish and Kari Suby adding a pair of hits each.

Kazemba took the loss in the opener while going 2-for-3 at the plate.
