Column: Fall high school seasons nearing end
By JOSH DALE, District 518
WORTHINGTON — The fall activity season is winding down with many teams already in their section tournaments.
Girls’ tennis and girls’ soccer finished up their season earlier this month, and the boys’ soccer team saw its season end in the section tournament on Tuesday. Volleyball, cross country and football begin their section tournaments next week. Football action is scheduled for Tuesday, cross country travels to Buffalo on Thursday and volleyball starts its playoff runs on Friday. The WHS marching band wraps up its season in Anoka on Oct. 26. Please come out and support the Trojans as we advance through the section tournaments.
The fall season may be coming to end, but the winter season is just around the corner. The activities department would like to remind all student- athletes and parents to turn in their Worthington High School athletic participation forms.
The student-athlete must have an updated physical form on file at the high school. These forms can be picked up at the high school office during school hours. The student-athlete must have the participation form in and a physical on file to begin practice with their winter team. They must also pay a participation fee of $100, or $50 if the student qualifies for free and reduced.
Here are the starting dates for winter activities.
* Girls Hockey: Oct. 28
* Gymnastics: Nov. 11
* Boys Hockey: Nov. 11
* Boys Basketball: Nov. 11
* Wrestling: Nov. 18
* Girls Basketball: Nov. 18
