WORTHINGTON -- Crazy Days is underway, and downtown retailers are excited to welcome shoppers to the annual summer event.

"There is a wide variety of items available at a much lower cost," said Center Sports' owner Pam Handevidt. "It is a beautiful day, traffic isn't as heavy as anticipated, but we're looking forward to a good day. I would encourage those who were unable to make it to Worthington today to still come to our community today and tomorrow, " Handevidt said.

Schafer's Health and Gifts owner -- and Chair of the Worthington Chamber of Commerce Retail Committee -- Amanda Walljasper-Tate was busy assisting customers Thursday morning.

"It's that time of year when retailers are clearancing summer merchandise and getting ready for fall. It has been good to see the steady traffic outside this morning," she said. "Shopping patterns have changed over the years, and there are sales all the time, but Crazy Days offers even better deals."

Next door, cheery children's music drifted out of Lit'l Wizards, from which owner Maria Thier offers a myriad of educational tools and specialty toys.

"What I like about Crazy Days is that you see familiar faces and new faces; it brings the community together," Thier said. "It's a good opportunity for teachers to come in and replenish their classrooms for back to school. We have up to 75 percent off summer items store wide."

Worthington's Crazy Days, which also includes business that aren't downtown, continues today and Saturday.
