ALVORD, Iowa -- The Lyon County Sheriff's Office responded to a one-vehicle rollover at 4 p.m. Thursday on Iowa 18. Involved was a 2000 Ford F250 pickup driven by Brent Vanhill, 36, of Alvord. He was eastbound on Iowa 18 when he swerved to miss a deer, lost control of the truck and entered the south ditch. The vehicle rolled onto the passenger side. The crash also took out approximately 180 feet of guardrail owned by the Iowa Department of Transportation and valued at approximately $6,000. Vanhill's truck sustained approximately $10,000 in damage. He was uninjured, but cited with public intoxication and failure to maintain control. Assisting at the scene was the Lincoln County (S.D.) Sheriff's Office.
