Speaker demands health insurance action or will ask Dayton to resign

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two-vehicle accident with injuries at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at 180th Street and Larch Avenue. Anthony Thomas, 20, of George, Iowa, was driving a 1995 Dodge Ram, when he failed to obey the stop sign. Verdell Groen, 75, of George, driving a 2006 Peterbilt semitrailer rig, which struck the pickup on the passenger side. Thomas and a passenger in the pickup truck, Carol Thomas, 19, were transported to Sanford Hospital, Rock Rapids, and then airlifted to Sanford Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D., for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Groen was transported by personal vehicle to the Osceola Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The Dodge sustained $10,000 in damages; the Peterbilt, owned by the George Co-Op, had $4,000 in damages. Assisting at the scene the George Fire Department, George Rescue, Iowa State Patrol and Iowa Department of Natural Resources.


WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Ambulance was dispatched at 7:48 p.m. Saturday to the Long Branch Saloon to assist a female who had been hit by a truck.

WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Ambulance was dispatched at 6:32 a.m. Sunday to 810 Eighth Ave. to assist a male having difficulty breathing.

WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Ambulance was dispatched at 10:38 a.m. Sunday to 1719 Dover St, to assist a male who was weak and anemic.


WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Police Department cited a driver for exhibition driving at 7:03 p.m. Friday at Stower Drive and Rowe Avenue.

WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Police Department investigated a report of a 3- to 4-foot snake inside a residence at 10:36 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of Ninth Street. The snake was not a pet.
