Deadline for SMAHC grants is May 2
WORTHINGTON -- The Southwest Minnesota Arts and Humanities Council (SMAHC) has announced a May 3 deadline for round two of its new Arts Legacy Grants for Organizations and Communities program.
The earliest project start date for these projects is July 1, 2010. Grants of up to $25,000 are available to nonprofit organizations or government agencies in the 18 counties of the SMAHC service area for arts projects that will instill the arts into the community, build upon past projects and show growth and/or diversity from past projects or existing activities in the comunity.
Applicants requesting $10,000 or more must contact the SMAHC office prior to submitting a grant application. Funding for SMAHC's Arts Legacy Grants is made possible through the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
Grants are available to support all the arts including music, dance, theater, visual art and writing. These funds may be accessed for projects that provide access to arts activities, public art, arts education for people of all ages, and to support arts activities that represent the diverse ethnic and cultural arts traditions represented in this state.
There will be grant writing workshops for the Legacy Grants on April 13. The workshops are free, but pre-registration is required. E-mail SMAHC at to register or call 1-800-622-5284 or (507) 537-1471. Additional workshops will be scheduled.
