Dorothy Johnson was born on July 23, 1941 in Pipestone, Minnesota to Stella Curts. She grew up in Holland, MN and attended country school. The family later moved to a farm near Slayton, MN. Dorothy graduated from Tracy High School in 1959. On April 30, 1960 she and William "Bill" Johnson were married at Lake Sarah Baptist Church in rural Slayton, MN. Following their marriage they made their home in Lake Benton, MN for a short time before moving to Avoca, MN. Dorothy worked at Campbells Soup in Worthington, MN, Penney Frock in Slayton and later at the Avoca Bar. Dorothy was known for her cooking especially at game feeds. On Tuesday, March 25, 2014 Dorothy moved to the Golden Living Center-Slayton and passed away there that night at the age of 72. She was a member of the Federated Women in Avoca and belonged to the Avoca pool league. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, softball, shooting pool, fishing, music and cooking.
Survivor include her husband, Bill Johnson, three sons and their spouses, Bradley and Lydia Johnson, Frank and Wendy Johnson and Darren Johnson all of Avoca, MN, three grandchildren, Taneka Hoffman and her husband, Travis, Kyle Johnson and Levi Johnson, two great-grandchildren, Kane and Kira Hoffman. She is preceded in death by her mother, Stella Curts and daughter, Gina Johnson.
Funeral services will be at Faith Lutheran Church in Avoca, MN on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dawn Quame officiating with special music by Cheri Paulson. The pallbearers are Roger Lindmeier, Mel Schrieier, Bob Schreier, John Larson, Keith Dumos and Darwin Lovell. Interment is at Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Avoca, MN.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. To send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com.
